DESCRIPTION:This novel by contemporary author T.C. Boyle investigates the r
 elationship between humans and their environment and is described by some 
 as an “eco-thriller.” When the protagonist\, Cat\, loses her newly acq
 uired pet\, she sets off a series of events that seem to only get more out
 rageous as the story progresses. The story pits materialism in American so
 ciety against the dire straits of environmental disasters such as mass ext
 inction\, hurricanes\, and extreme weather events. Despite these drastic s
 ituations and warnings\, the story brings humor into the mix\, making for
