Today universally acknowledged as a poet of the highest order, Emily Dickinson (1830-1886) was essentially unknown during her lifetime. Of her 1800 poems, only 11 were published prior to her death. Collected in self-made manuscript booklets, her poems are largely crafted in short stanza form, displaying an extraordinary vision of the world that stands in startling contrast to her own withdrawn and secluded life.
