Inspired by Charles Dickens‘ David Copperfield, Kingsolver’s Demon Copperhead tells a tale of anger and compassion. It is set in poverty-stricken southern Appalachia and follows the life of Demon, the son of a teen mom who lives in a trailer. Although witty, outspoken and resilient, Demon’s life is a series of trials: addiction, abuse, loss, child labor, poor access to education all seem to creep up at every corner.
