The Old Man and the Sea is a Pulitzer Prize-winning classic novella first published in Life magazine in 1952. The novella follows the tragic events of Cuban fisherman Santiago’s fight to bring to shore a large marlin he caught in the Gulf Stream. As one of Hemingway’s most well-known works, the novella has been subject to myriad reviews, critiques, and analyses abound about its various themes, for example Christian symbolism, mortality, duplicity, and man versus environment.
